FILTERS
The Filters section is a new feature in Speed Download 4 that lets you organize your downloaded files to your heart's content. You set your filters from the 'Filters' section in the preferences . You can also right click (CNTRL-CLICK) on My Filters' in the left pane and select 'Setup Filters' from the contextual menu.
- Once in the 'Filters' preferences, you can create as many personalized categories as you like. Simply create a name for each of your filters and then match them with the file extension that you want. Note:
You can put more than one file extension for each filter; simply separate them with a semicolon.
- The Filter section can work in one of two ways and the choice is completely yours. By default, the location of the Filters you create is relative to your default downloads folder setting. What this means is that
if for example you create a Filter called 'Applications', then a folder called 'Applications' will also be created inside your default downloads folder. Inside that 'Applications' folder will be all those files that match
the file extensions for that Filter.
- On the other hand, if 'Location is relative to the default downloads folder' is UNCHECKED, then the Filter name you create should be the pathname to where you would like Speed Download 4 to create that
folder with the Filter name you created. For example, if you create (your_username)/Desktop/Applications for a Filter name, then SD 4 will create a folder called 'Applications' on your Desktop.
Inside that 'Applications' folder will be all those files that match the file extensions for that Filter.
- Note: Folder names can also contain slashes so you can for example, have one filter with the name 'Documents/Word' and one with the name 'Documents/Excel' and your download folder will then have a documents
subfolder, with the subfolders Excel and Word.
- When you're done, press 'Save'.
- What's even cooler is that Speed Download also creates customized folders in your default download location named after the filters you created, and automatically places the appropriate files in each one.
- You never have to deal with disorganized files
again.
